About Us

Over 75 years of hospitality, education and community in the heart of Milan

A tradition that began in 1951

When in 1951 the Stigmatine Congregation opened the doors of Pensionato Universitario Bertoni at Via Cicognara 17, the goal was clear: to offer young university students not just accommodation, but a home away from home. Since then, generations of students from across Italy and around the world have found at Bertoni a place to grow, study and build lasting friendships.

The Stigmatine Congregation

The Pensionato is run by the Congregation of the Stigmatine Fathers, founded by Saint Gaspar Bertoni in 1816 in Verona. The Stigmatine tradition places education and the mentoring of young people at its core, with a particular focus on the holistic development of each individual. This spirit guides every aspect of life at the Pensionato: from daily hospitality to cultural and educational initiatives.

A community, not just a residence

Pensionato Bertoni is a male university residence that welcomes students of all backgrounds, faculties and nationalities. The choice to serve a male community is rooted in the Stigmatine educational tradition and creates a focused environment where relationships among residents are built on the daily sharing of university life, study and mutual respect.

Our mission

At Pensionato Bertoni we believe that university years are a pivotal time in a young person's life. That is why our mission goes beyond providing accommodation: we want every student to find here the ideal conditions to grow as a person, achieve their academic goals and develop life skills that will serve them in the future.

The building

The building spans 6 floors, 4 of which house student rooms: each with 12 single rooms featuring private bathrooms and independent climate control, a fully equipped industrial kitchen and laundry facilities, both free to use. The ground floor houses the study room, while the basement level (-1) features the recreational room. Common areas are designed to encourage interaction and socializing.

The Management

Write to the Director
The style we have chosen for our residence is that of a domestic community. The university years are a pivotal moment in a young person's life — a time to measure oneself, to begin or develop the process of autonomy and adulthood. In this phase of growth, the enormous potential that every student carries often emerges, alongside the fragilities that belong to our personal histories. The Pensionato aims to be the place where students become aware of their humanity and learn to value their own abilities; where they discover the beauty of their talents, the richness of giving of oneself and receiving from others, and the struggles that become opportunities for growth. What we ask of our young men is the willingness to put themselves on the line, to live actively and responsibly, going beyond the search for a simple housing solution.

Don Fabrizio personally welcomes every new resident and supports students throughout their university journey. Guided by the educational mission of the Stigmatine Congregation, he is dedicated to creating an environment where every young person can grow, find support and feel at home away from home.
